The Kilifi County Alliance (KCA) is a registered non-profit and non-political organisation established to promote good governance and active involvement of Kilifi County residents in public policy. Its main objectives include policy advocacy to ensure residents' needs are reflected in government policies, community mobilisation and networking to foster collaboration among resident associations, and building strategic partnerships with government, private sector, and development partners to improve service delivery and quality of life within the county.
The KCA was formed in 2014 and subsequently registered in 2016 under the NGO Board. Its formation was a direct response to the implementation of the 2010 constitution and the introduction of counties, leading Resident Associations in various parts of Kilifi County (such as Kilifi, Watamu, and Malindi) to unite under an umbrella organisation. This unified structure was created to collectively address common issues at the county level on behalf of these residents in a non-political and non-profit manner.
Membership in the KCA is open to organisations that share a commitment to the development of Kilifi County and have a membership of a certain size (though the specific minimum size is not detailed in the provided text). There are three categories of membership: Registered Resident Associations, Residential Developments & Community Groups, Registered Companies & Corporations, and Honorary Members. Interested organisations can apply by completing a form provided by the KCA Board.
The KCA is primarily funded through annual membership subscriptions, as well as through donations. The organisation is governed by a volunteer Board consisting of 11 members who are elected during an Annual General Meeting (AGM) for a renewable term of three years. The current key officials include a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The KCA intends to continue actively engaging with both the National Government and the Kilifi County Government to represent the interests of its members in several key areas. These include the development of contentious energy programmes (such as nuclear and fossil fuels like coal), economic policies and investment infrastructure, land and planning matters, and issues related to county revenue raising.
The KCA facilitates resident involvement in public policy through active engagements between the residents and both the County and National governments. This is achieved through policy advocacy efforts, where the KCA works to ensure that the needs and concerns of residents are reflected in public policies. Additionally, by fostering community mobilisation and networking among Resident Associations countywide, the KCA strengthens the collective voice of the residents.
While KCA covers Kilifi County, its membership currently comprises of Resident Associations, Resident Developments and companies. KCA works in areas including; Marereni, Malindi, Watamu, Kilifi, Vipingo, Kuruwitu, Mtwapa, Kaloleni, and Mariakani, indicating a county-wide reach and representation.
